After being flooded out of its originally scheduled Nashville location for its annual conference, ILTA has managed to relocate the event to the Aria Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The dates remain the same: 22-to-26 August.
There are more details about the ILTA programme here http://conference.iltanet.org – and here's a link to the venue – www.arialasvegas.com It's a modest little place – with a mere 4000 rooms and 16 restaurants, plus numerous swimming pools (including Liquid – an 'adults only' pool) located on 'The Strip' (Las Vegas Boulevard) between the Monte Carlo and the Bellagio. It's a brand new hotel (only opened this month) and its headline show is Viva Elvis by Cirque du Soleil. (Think Blackpool but without the Irish Sea, the rain or the Krankies.) Thursday, May 20

Recommind is hosting a series of webinars on e-disclosure related topics over the next few months, here are the details...
• Technology is Changing the Economics of e-Disclosure, Are You Prepared? Wednesday, May 25, 2010 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm BST The enormous costs and time associated with the e-Disclosure process are staggering, with the document review phase alone frequently racking up fees that in some cases actually eclipse the amount at issue. The reason for this is straightforward: the approach to identification, collection, processing, review and analysis of information – including technology, people and processes – haven’t kept up with the explosive growth of electronically stored information. Law firms and corporations that continue to use outdated approaches are simply too slow, inaccurate and inefficient to keep up with today’s digital information volumes and diversity and are finding themselves at a competitive disadvantage to their better-prepared peers. In this webinar learn how law firms, corporations and the courts are embracing the use of new technology for more accurate investigations and to reduce e-Disclosure costs. Speakers: Chris Dale, The e-Disclosure Information Project + Jason Robman, Assistant General Counsel, Recommind To Register for this Webinar: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/268150227 • The Impact of Earles v Barclays Bank on UK Corporations Wednesday, June 16, 2010 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM BST The judgment in Earles v Barclays has significant implications for UK corporations. The failure of the bank to have an efficient and effective information management system in place ultimately led to Barclays paying significant penalties for its disclosure failures. What are the future implications of this judgment? Lawyers must anticipate having to give disclosure of specifically relevant electronic documentation efficiently and effectively and must have the systems in place to do so. This webinar will discuss how corporations, as well as their lawyers, can avoid the reputational consequences, as well as the costs implications, of court decisions which comment adversely and publicly on their conduct of e-disclosure. Speakers: Chris Dale, The e-Disclosure Information Project + Jason Robman, Assistant General Counsel, Recommind To register: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/753475587 • The UK e-Disclosure Questionnaire - Its Implications for Law Firms Wednesday, July 21, 2010 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM BST The UK Civil Procedure Rules already impose a duty on parties to discuss their electronic sources. The proposed ESI Questionnaire formalises that obligation and provides a checklist not just for parties to list their own sources but to set out what they expect from their opponents. Master Whitaker's judgment in Goodale v Ministry of Justice brings the questionnaire to public attention, and we can see expect to see it used ahead of its formal incorporation into the rules. Lawyers will be expected to understand much more about their clients’ electronic sources of disclosable material. This webinar focuses on the adverse consequences of failure to comply with the disclosure rules, but also shows how proper use of the ESI Questionnaire can be used as a positive tool for conducting the disclosure part of litigation in a timely and cost-effective way. Speakers: Chris Dale, The e-Disclosure Information Project + Jason Robman, Assistant General Counsel, Recommind To register: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/408442378 Wednesday, May 19

We've got a nice little competition here – courtesy The Frayman Group* – with a prize of a trip to the Royal Enclosure, Royal Ascot on Friday 18th June. (We're reliably informed you cannot buy entry into the Royal Enclosure – although men will have to hire or buy morning dress and ladies are required to wear big hats.) The attached PDF contains the full details + the link to email back your responses however it's basically three simple questions about law firm information barriers. (* The Frayman Group report they have signed seven top 100 American law firms in the past six months, six of which were directly against IntApp.)

Cancel those rhinestone shirts, forget about visiting the Grand Ole Opry. Following the recent disastrous flash floods in Tennessee, the Gaylord Opryland hotel in Nashville last week announced it was closing for six months to repair flood damage and carry out refurbishment work. For the legal IT community, the immediate question is: what does this mean for this year’s ILTA 2010 conference, which was scheduled to take place at the Opryland in August? ILTA say the conference will still take place and are currently in talks with the Gaylord hotel group to find an alternative location. Insider sources suggest this may be the Gaylord Grapevine in Dallas, the location of the 2008 ILTA conference.
In the meantime ILTA are advising delegates who have already booked for Nashville to cancel their hotel reservations and contact their airlines about cancelling/changing their flight bookings. ILTA expect to have more news in about a week. http://conference.iltanet.org/ |
