View Article  Welcome to online vendor bingo
One of the regular features of every ILTA conference is 'vendor bingo' – which encourages delegates to visit as many exhibitor booths as possible, in return for which they have a chance to win some very generous prizes. In keeping with the trend toward virtualization at many of this year's industry tradeshows, the 2009 ILTA conference in Washington, DC is upping the ante by featuring an online version of its vendor bingo game via its arrangement with LegalQB.com.  The contest starts on Monday 24 August on the virtual exhibit hall site www.legalqb.com/tradeshows and is open to all registered ILTA members – whether attending the conference or not – with a $500 American Express gift card prize for the winner.

Laura's personal commitment is to raise minimum of £75;  along with LexisNexis funding, each participant will then be able to pay for at least one operation. Each operation costs £150.

View Article  LegalQB launches virtual tradeshow
Following on the heels of last week's announcement by Pilgrim that it was pulling out of the UK's largest legal IT tradeshow because it felt this was no longer a relevant marketing channel, LegalQB in the US has just announced the formal launch of a new virtual tradeshow and marketing platform. Here's the full story – and 'yes' The Orange Rag plug will be providing the service with a news feed...

LegalQB.com announced the full launch and implementation of its virtual tradeshow platform in conjunction with the 2009 ILTA Education Conference in Washington, DC.  The conference begins on August 23rd but attendees, interested parties and vendors can get a jump on researching products and services, as well as exchanging information, starting today via the company’s official website link www.legalqb.com/tradeshows

“We’re extremely proud to be deploying our full featured launch on time as promised, “said Joshua Siegel, the company’s CEO, following a year of extensive development and previews such as the ABA Techshow in Chicago earlier this year. “LegalQB.com is a rich media legal technology portal integrating vendor information, a comprehensive knowledge base, resources, online trade show information and education together with a diverse online community,” continued Siegel.  “By utilizing our rich media environment, potential clients are fully immersed in the sales cycle by direct contact with the vendor and the community at large.”

The virtual tradeshow for the ILTA conference serves as the exclusive online platform for research and the exchange of ideas before, during and after the conference. LegalQB.com offers unprecedented online access to technology vendors, trade shows and peers and reduces much of the problems of cold calling, preliminary sales meetings, colleague referrals and conflicting conference schedules. Essentially, LegalQB.com provides a comprehensive communications platform allowing all parties to view and process relevant information in order to make informed and educated decisions about a product or service.

The Payne Group, a long time provider in security software and automation tools, has announced the release of Outlook Send Assistant, which verifies recipient email addresses and warns the user if the message is being sent under a variety of different and potentially damaging circumstances such as to a distribution list or using Reply To All.

When used in conjunction with Outlook 2000 or higher and on HTML formatted -mails, Outlook Send Assistant can be configured to fit many different gotcha scenarios that users may experience. In addition, optional notification prompts can be established to remind users to add specific snippets of language such as marketing information, an attorney-client communication footer or the US IRS Circular 230 Disclosure.

With many customization options, Outlook Send Assistant can:
•     Determine if there is an external email address contained in the TO, CC or BCC recipient list; and confirm if the user would like to edit the email or continue sending;
•     Detect Reply To All usage and prompt the user by asking if they would actually like to reply to all recipients (customizable with any firm-specific language);
•     Notify recipient of BCC status and prevent related disclosure;
•     Check for the use of Firm Distribution Lists and verify that the user intended to use them as recipients;
•     Designate Global Address List (GAL) Distribution Lists as automatically trusted;
•     Prompt the user to include a variety of configured disclaimers or marketing messages at the bottom of the email message.

If you want to learn more, there is a brief (15 minute) webinar scheduled for later today (8:30 - 8:45 EDT/5:30-5:45 UK time) looking at the key features of this new system.

View Article  Pilgrim say goodbye to Legal IT show
Pilgrim Systems this morning announced it has decided not to exhibit at the 2010 Legal IT Show in Islington. Normally a stalwart at this event, Pilgrim believes these types of trade shows have run their course and there are a number of other more effective methods of spending marketing budget to attract new customers in what is an ever changing profession.

Pilgrim’s COO Colin Kennedy said, “We believe that IT decision makers in law firms have excellent market knowledge and share it very effectively with their peers. It is not as if they select a short list of suppliers from the quality of their respective stands at exhibitions. Decision makers know a fair bit about the serious players that are out there. They know all about the changes that are taking place in the legal technology marketplace. Trade shows in our view are no longer an effective use of either the purchasers’ or the vendors’ time in what is now a very mature sector. We intend to spend our marketing budget on smaller, more intimate get-togethers, which allow for serious discussion and idea sharing between innovative, thought provoking people with a passion for change. We wish the event management sector the best of luck in the future, but would urge them to change with the times and evolve their offerings to more suit the needs of the profession.”

Comment: We're only surprised it has taken this long for vendors like Pilgrim to drop out – we could not attend the 2009 show earlier this year – and apart from the rip-off priced catering, we missed nothing. Given the show has now been transferred to yet another team within the Informa group – who appear to be even more unfamiliar with the legal IT market than last year's lot – it looks like the Legal IT show has now become an eminently missable legacy event, only of interest to small firm CPD collectors.
