Lovells have been lawfully wedded to Hogan Hartson for the best part of a month and now there are reports that Denton Wilde (No.40 on the Insider 250 list) are in merger talks with Chicago-based Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal (No.59 in the AmLaw 200 rankings). Both firms run Elite so that's one less problem to worry about.

After being flooded out of its originally scheduled Nashville location for its annual conference, ILTA has managed to relocate the event to the Aria Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The dates remain the same: 22-to-26 August.
There are more details about the ILTA programme here http://conference.iltanet.org – and here's a link to the venue – www.arialasvegas.com It's a modest little place – with a mere 4000 rooms and 16 restaurants, plus numerous swimming pools (including Liquid – an 'adults only' pool) located on 'The Strip' (Las Vegas Boulevard) between the Monte Carlo and the Bellagio. It's a brand new hotel (only opened this month) and its headline show is Viva Elvis by Cirque du Soleil. (Think Blackpool but without the Irish Sea, the rain or the Krankies.) Monday, May 17

Last week we published a brief piece about the Frayman Group's Royal Ascot competition. In it we included a comment Frayman made about its main competitor (IntApp) in this sector... " The Frayman Group report they have
signed seven top 100 American law firms in the past six months, six of
which were directly against IntApp."
Now IntApp have responded to this remark with a comment that deserves more than just to be buried in the comments column. Read on... Hi Charles, I couldn't help but notice the recent post on your blog containing information barrier market share claims by the Frayman Group. There’s no question that demand in this software category is accelerating. But since that post called IntApp out by name, I thought I'd write to set the record straight about Wall Builder and our continuing growth and momentum in the marketplace. In the same six month period, IntApp won 17 new clients, including 3 City firms (who join a number of longtime UK clients like Norton Rose and BLP), boosting our comparative information barriers market share to over 90%. New IntApp Wall Builder clients include: • Allen & Overy • Covington & Burling • Cravath • Denton Wilde • Dickstein Shapiro • Drinker Biddle • Haynes and Boone • Holland & Knight • Katten Muchin • Kramer Levin • McKenna Long • Ogilvy Renault • Pepper Hamilton • Taylor Wessing • Townsend • Willkie • Womble Carlyle Additionally, in the same period, 4 firms adopted IntApp’s new, state-of-the-art Activity Tracker product. These firms can demonstrate to their clients that they’re taking the strongest measures available to protect clients’ most sensitive and highly confidential information: • Covington & Burling • Crowell & Moring • Miller Canfield • Paul, Weiss Whilst confidentiality management is a separate and distinct new category that IntApp pioneered, the Frayman team do have experience in the older conflicts category -- a space that will be interesting to watch given the recent new conflicts product announcements from both Autonomy iManage and Recommind, who are joining longtime market share leaders Elite and Aderant with new technology for the conflicts market. To be sporting, we think it’s great to have another company helping get the word out about the very real nature of the confidentiality challenges facing law firms. And as a marketing professional, I applaud their innovative contest idea as a way to make contact with people in the UK legal community. IntApp want to help the community as well, so we’ve donated £1000 in honour of the Frayman Group to www.Snopes.com – an organisation committed to stamping out urban myths on the internet. Best regards. Dan Bressler IntApp, Inc Sunday, May 16

We've had a couple of people report problems with the attached file, so we've also added a PDF version.
This Wednesday saw Microsoft launching its Sharepoint 2010 and Office 2010 products. What does it mean for law firms? Well, here is some weekend reading (see attached Word .docx file) courtesy Brian Zeve of Microsoft with input by Mark Boggis of Clifford Chance. Enjoy. We'll be asking questions on this next week. Cancel those rhinestone shirts, forget about visiting the Grand Ole Opry. Following the recent disastrous flash floods in Tennessee, the Gaylord Opryland hotel in Nashville last week announced it was closing for six months to repair flood damage and carry out refurbishment work. For the legal IT community, the immediate question is: what does this mean for this year’s ILTA 2010 conference, which was scheduled to take place at the Opryland in August? ILTA say the conference will still take place and are currently in talks with the Gaylord hotel group to find an alternative location. Insider sources suggest this may be the Gaylord Grapevine in Dallas, the location of the 2008 ILTA conference.
In the meantime ILTA are advising delegates who have already booked for Nashville to cancel their hotel reservations and contact their airlines about cancelling/changing their flight bookings. ILTA expect to have more news in about a week. http://conference.iltanet.org/ Friday, May 7
